Warfighting skills that will be demanded from them on the modern Battlefield.
Detail in terms of these course can be found on the pages dealing with the theory and
practical courses.

-
This five week course is presented to all permanent
force officers in the rank group captain or major in the South African Army
who have already completed their own corps battle handling. The course forms
part of the development courses in the South African Army and thus is a
prerequisite for promotion.
-
The following must be regarded as prerequisites for the
course and all students have to comply with it, to ensure that standards are
met:

The minimum rank of captain before being accepted on
the course.
-
Successful completion of your own corps battle
handling.

revise the contents of your own corps battle handling.
-
After successful completion of the ISUC theory course,
you will be able to know all the theoretical battle handling aspects of each
corps and be able to apply this during the planning process at the lower
tactical level. This exercise will give you an overview to the
Problem-Solving model to prepare you for the Junior Command and Staff Duties
(JCSD) theoretical course. Selected members in the command line will also be
continuously prepared for the Integrated Sub-unit Commander’s Practical
Course.
-
The course comprises of theory subjects and subjects
that require practical rehearsals. To be found competent on All Arms
Battle Handling Theory required for a sub-unit commander, you must pass all
theory evaluations with an average of 60%. Both battle participants and
-supporters are evaluated on the same level.
-
Your working dress for the duration of the course is
Dress no 9 (Camouflage) and PT-dress (Physical training / sport is scheduled). You will also require Ceremonial Dress no 9
for parades as well as a jacket and tie (ladies applicable dress code) for
functions. As the weather in the Northern Cape is unpredictable (four
seasons in one day!), it would be advisable to bring warm clothing and a
raincoat along. Remember your route form from your home unit. Although the
SA A CTC provides stationery, it would be to your advantage to supply your
own.
-
The instructors of the ISUC and specialist branches
have extensive knowledge of All Arms Battle Handling and invite each and
every future Sub-Unit Commander to enhance their military education to
successfully plan or support the planning process of the battles on tactical
level. To quote Henry Knox (1750 – 1806): "Officers can never act
with confidence until they are masters of their profession".
